Our 8 Best Home Furnace Tips
#1 Set your thermostat at your comfort level and forget it!
It takes less energy to heat air 4-5 degrees than it does to heat air 8-10 degrees.
#2 Clean or Replace Home Furnace Filters Once a Month
Cleaning or replacing filters will help your furnace breathe more easily and work more effectively.
#3 Clean Warm-Air Registers, Baseboard Heaters, & Radiators
To keep your unit running smoothly, keep these components clean and ensure they’re not blocked by furniture, carpeting, or drapes.
#4 Place Heat-Resistant Radiator Reflectors Between Exterior Walls and Radiators
Redirect heat typically lost to the outdoors back into your home to help save on energy costs.
#5 Use Kitchen, Bath, & Other Ventilating Fans Wisely
In just 1 hour, these fans can pull out a houseful of warmed or cooled air. Turn fans off as soon as they have done their job.
#6 Keep Draperies & Shades Open on South-Facing Windows During the Day
Keeping drapes open to allow sunlight into your home during the heating season can help save on energy costs. These should be closed at night to reduce the chill from cold windows.
#7 Select Energy-Efficient Heating Equipment
When buying new, consider the energy efficiency of your heating equipment.
Your contractor should be able to give you energy fact sheets for different types, models, and designs to help you compare energy usage and select the model best suited for your home.
#8 Try These 3 Time & Money Saving Tips Before Calling a Service Tech
If you’re experiencing issues with your furnace, consider checking these three things that could save you a service call!
- Verify the thermostat is calling for heating
- Check your breaker box to ensure the breaker is on
- Check the furnace switch and ensure your gas is on
Home Furnace Service FAQ
While you can schedule maintenance any time, we consider early fall the best time for home furnace maintenance. Regular maintenance will help your unit run efficiently, and scheduling it just before those cold months will ensure you’re prepared when those temperatures drop.
You can expect your furnace to last, on average, 15-20 years. We recommend regular maintenance to ensure your furnace operates efficiently and effectively for as long as possible.
In addition to your maintenance schedule, many other factors can affect the lifespan of your furnace, such as:
- The make and model of your home furnace
- Quality installation
- The location of the installation
Buying a new furnace can be a daunting task, and there are many factors for homeowners to consider, such as:
- Unit efficiency rating
- Unit heating capacity
- The layout and square footage of your home
- Your budget and more
The expert advisors at AAA Heating & Cooling are here to help simplify that task and help you select the right home furnace for your needs.
Some home furnace noises may indicate problems such as:
- Mechanical issues
- Airflow reductions
- Clogged Burner
While some humming of the motor and other light noises are common, it’s important to pay attention to any changes in the way your unit sounds, as some noises can indicate a furnace in distress. Rumbles, squeaks, and rattles should be traced to find the cause and ensure your unit is running safely and efficiently.

When AAA Heating and Cooling installs your furnace and heating system, you will have no doubt you’ve chosen the best. These are the reasons our customers choose AAA Heating and Cooling time and time again.
- Most furnaces will take a full day to install. We start first thing in the morning, removing any old equipment with care so that your home remains in pristine condition.
- We always follow EPA guidelines. You will not find us releasing anything into the air, cutting lines to bleed them, or leaking natural gas or other substances into your home or the atmosphere. We dispose of everything properly. Once the work is done and before we leave, we will test the equipment on site to check the air balance and make sure the airflow is clear and consistent.
- We follow the standard permitting process on all furnace installations. Everything is up to code and the manufacturer’s recommendations. City Inspectors are brought in for a short 15-minute inspection on a later date.
- Our bids are all inclusive. Other companies put together proposals that are lower because they don’t include installation or permits. Those charges come later as a surprise. With AAA, your bid includes quotes for the furnace, installation, and permits in one clear price.
